The Royal Oak at 50: Looking Back at the 2022 Anniversary
Share
The Royal Oak reached its fiftieth anniversary in 2022. That milestone belonged to the collection introduced in 1972, not to the founding of Audemars Piguet. This article looks back at that anniversary and the changes it brought to one of the collection's best known designs.
The Jumbo 16202
Audemars Piguet's historical account identifies the 16202 as the successor to the 15202. Its 39 mm format continued the Jumbo proportions, while calibre 7121 replaced calibre 2121. The newer movement brought a quick date setting system and a longer stated reserve. The 2022 range included steel, pink gold, yellow gold and platinum versions.

The Photographs Show an Offshore
Our retained styling gallery features a Royal Oak Offshore chronograph on a dark strap. It is not a photograph of the Jumbo 16202 or proof of an anniversary edition. The visible pushers, chronograph counters and substantial case give the pictured watch its own character within the broader Royal Oak family.

Comparing Anniversary Watches
The anniversary program included more than one reference and movement. Specifications should therefore be checked for the exact model rather than applied across the collection. When considering a watch described as a fiftieth anniversary example, request its reference, production information and the relevant documentation and caseback photographs.
