Cushion Cut Engagement Rings: Shape, Light and Settings

Cushion Shape and Facet Pattern
A cushion cut has a square or rectangular outline with rounded corners. That outline does not prescribe one identical facet pattern for every stone. Compare the actual diamonds as you move them, paying attention to the balance of bright areas, dark contrast and colored flashes.

Choose the Outline You Prefer
Some cushions look almost square; others are distinctly elongated. Compare their measurements and try similar proportions on your hand. Neither outline is automatically better. A grading report helps identify the stone, but a single table or depth percentage cannot choose the most appealing cushion for you.

Separate the Center from the Halo
This original gallery includes round halo rings as well as rounded corner center stones. They are labeled as comparisons. A cushion outline halo can surround a different center shape, so ask what the center stone itself is before relying on the overall silhouette.

Color and Clarity in Context
Look at the individual stone and its report rather than assuming one clarity range is the best purchase for everyone. A yellow center is also a separate color decision, not simply a white diamond with different lighting. Ask about color origin and any treatment when considering a colored diamond.

The Setting Makes a Difference
A narrow band can emphasize the center, while a halo or broader shoulders adds width. Check the prongs, side profile and comfort beside a wedding band. If you are considering a setting without a center, confirm which stone measurements it can accommodate before ordering.

Use Archived Designs as a Starting Point
The photographed rings came from an earlier selection. Their present availability, prices and specifications need to be confirmed individually. Choose a design for how it looks and feels to you; a particular shape or brand does not promise future investment returns.
