Diamond Stud Earrings: Shapes, Settings and Fit
Share
Diamond stud earrings can look understated or substantial depending on their shape, setting and proportions. A useful comparison starts with the pair on your ears, not just a carat number on the listing.
Round and Square Shapes
Round studs have a curved outline, while square stones give the pair more defined corners. Prongs and the surrounding metal also change how much of the stone you see from the front.

Understand the Weight Description
Check whether a quoted carat weight is the total for both earrings or the weight of each stone. Halo styles may include the surrounding stones in their total. Ask for the center stone weights separately when that distinction matters to your comparison.

Settings, Backs and Comfort
Try the earrings with their intended backs. Look at how the settings sit against the ear, whether they tilt and whether the posts feel comfortable. A jeweler should check the security of the stones and closures, particularly on a previously owned pair.

Compare the two earrings together under the same lighting. Ask about diamond origin, any available grading reports and what is known about the smaller accent stones. A matching appearance does not by itself establish matching grades.
