Emerald Cut Diamond Rings: Shape, Color and Setting
Share
An emerald cut diamond is a diamond fashioned into a particular shape and facet arrangement. It is not a colorless emerald. Emerald the gemstone is a green variety of beryl, as explained in GIA’s guide to beryl. Keeping those names separate makes ring descriptions much easier to understand.

Long facets and a rectangular outline
The pictured center has a long rectangular outline and the stepped appearance associated with an emerald cut. Pink shoulder accents and warm colored metal change the setting’s overall effect. The photographs do not establish the pink stones’ identity or color origin.

A cluster is a different approach
The comparison image includes a yellow gold colored floral cluster ring. Its rounded outline comes from a group of stones rather than one large emerald cut center. Compare the two designs as complete rings, including how far each extends across the finger.

Information to request
For an actual emerald cut diamond ring, ask for center measurements, grading information, metal fineness and separate center and accent weights. View it in more than one lighting condition and check that its proportions suit your hand. A photograph cannot establish a clarity grade.
