Ruby and Diamond Rings: Buying and Care Questions
Share
Red center stones and bright diamond accents give these ruby ring designs their contrast. The original feature identifies rubies in several shapes and settings, from a heart shaped halo to a broad decorative ring. Their photographs show design choices, while their gemological details require individual confirmation.

Ask what the report establishes
Request a written description of the ruby, including whether it is natural or laboratory grown and any known treatments. If a report is available, check which stone it covers and what it actually states. Strong color in a photograph does not establish geographic origin, treatment status or quality.

Inspect the whole setting
A wide decorative top can feel very different from a narrow halo ring. Check height, edges and comfort between neighboring fingers. Ask a jeweler to inspect the prongs and any previous repairs, particularly where small accent stones meet an open or curved section.

Choose care for the specific stone
GIA’s ruby care guidance explains why treatment matters when cleaning. Filled or otherwise treated stones can need special precautions. If the treatment is unknown, ask a qualified jeweler before using steam, ultrasonic equipment or cleaning chemicals.
