Selling a Luxury Watch: A First Time Seller’s Checklist
Share
Before selling a luxury watch, gather its identifying details and describe its condition honestly. A clear record helps a buyer evaluate the watch and gives you a better basis for comparing offers.
Identify the exact watch
Start with the brand, model and reference if known. Record the case material, dial, bracelet and any changes made during ownership. Similar looking watches can have different movements, sizes or configurations. If you do not know whether a part is original, say so rather than guessing.
Gather accessories and history
Bring the box, papers, spare links and service invoices you still have. These can support the evaluation, but packaging and documents alone do not authenticate a watch. A buyer should inspect the watch itself and explain any uncertainty.
Photograph the watch before handing it over. Note scratches, bracelet wear, missing links and functions that are not working. Avoid arranging polishing or repairs solely for a sale until a specialist explains the likely effect on the offer.
Choose how to sell
A direct sale provides an agreed purchase amount. Consignment puts the watch up for sale under a separate agreement and may take longer. Compare the amount you receive after fees, the payment timing and the responsibilities while the watch is held.
If a watch stays with a business for inspection, request a receipt identifying it and recording the agreed work. Ask before any case opening, repair or part replacement is authorized.
Review the offer before accepting
An online asking price is not proof that a similar watch sold for that amount. Condition, configuration and service needs matter. Arrange a watch evaluation in Boca Raton and ask for the offer, payment method and any deductions to be explained before you decide.
