Selling a Luxury Watch: What to Confirm Before Accepting
Share
A good luxury watch sale ends with clear terms: the exact watch being sold, the accessories included, the final amount and the payment arrangement. Prepare those details before focusing on the headline offer.
Document the Watch as It Is
Gather the reference, available purchase records, service invoices and any original accessories. Photograph the watch and list extra links, straps, boxes and papers that will accompany it. Keep sensitive identifying details out of public posts.
Disclose known repairs and modifications. A replaced dial, added stones or a different bracelet can affect how a buyer assesses the watch. Clear information helps avoid a revised offer later.

Wait Before Cosmetic Work
Do not arrange polishing or an expensive service solely on the assumption that it will increase the selling price. Ask for an evaluation first. Work may be useful, but the cost is not always recovered in the sale and polishing can change original details.
Compare Offers on the Same Basis
Specify the same accessories and condition information for each buyer. Ask whether the offer is provisional pending inspection and whether any deductions remain. An online asking price is not evidence that an equivalent watch sold for that amount.

Confirm Payment and Handover
Ask when the final price becomes binding, how payment will be made and what receipt you will receive. For any remote arrangement, confirm packing instructions, insurance and responsibility for the watch before sending it.
Consignment has different terms from a direct sale. Confirm the fee, asking price authority, custody arrangements and when proceeds become payable if the watch sells.
