The 2020 Generation Change
Rolex introduced the 41mm Submariner generation in 2020. For the black dial Submariner Date, reference 126610LN followed the 40mm 116610LN. Both have the familiar black bezel, date window and Oyster bracelet, so the difference is easier to appreciate when the watches are placed together. Our original photographs preserve that comparison.
Case Size and Wrist Fit
The nominal case diameter moved from 40mm to 41mm, but the way a watch wears also depends on its case proportions, bracelet and your wrist. Look at the front and side photographs rather than treating a one millimeter increase as a complete description of the change. Try each generation if possible and check the available bracelet links and clasp adjustment.
The Movement Update
The 126610LN uses caliber 3235, with approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The earlier 116610LN belongs to the caliber 3135 generation. These are reference specific distinctions; they should not be assigned to every watch carrying the Submariner name. Service history and actual condition still matter when comparing two preowned examples.
Shared Design, Individual Condition
Both references in this comparison use a black ceramic bezel insert and an Oyster bracelet. The brushed bracelet and clasp surfaces shown here should not be described as polished center links. Inspect bezel condition, case edges, bracelet wear and any refinishing or replaced parts on the actual watch. The gallery helps explain the design changes, while current availability and price need a separate check. Old waiting list estimates are not a reliable guide to today’s stock.
