Omega Speedmaster Professional vs Moonphase: Key Differences
Share
The black dial Professional and blue Moonphase in this gallery share the Speedmaster name, but their displays serve different purposes. The Professional shows three counters. The blue watch adds a moon phase display beneath two larger counters.
The earlier article confused the Moonphase with the smaller Speedmaster Reduced. They are different models. The Reduced’s case and movement specifications should not be applied to the blue Moonphase shown here.

The Moonphase Display
The blue dial places the moon display near six o’clock. A pointer date scale appears in the left counter. That layout gives the lower dial a very different appearance from the Professional’s third counter.

The Professional Layout
The black dial watch uses three counters and a central chronograph hand. Its warm case color contrasts with the dark bezel and strap. The side view shows the crown and pushers, and the final photograph reveals the movement through the back.

Compare References, Not Just Names
For documented examples, Omega lists Professional 310.63.42.50.01.001 at 42 mm with caliber 3861, and Moonphase 304.33.44.52.03.001 at 44.25 mm with self winding caliber 9904. These are reference specifications, not measurements verified from these photographs.

Which Would You Wear?
Try both layouts and compare readability, case height and strap comfort. Choose the extra calendar display if you enjoy it, or the Professional’s simpler information layout if that is easier for you to use. Confirm the exact reference before comparing service needs or prices.
