Piaget Watches with Pavé Diamonds: Design and Buying Details
Share
A Piaget watch with diamond details can function as both a timepiece and a piece of jewelry. Some designs frame a colored dial with a diamond bezel; others carry stones across the dial or bracelet. The placement of those stones changes the appearance as much as the total amount of sparkle.
What Pavé Describes
Pavé describes a setting style in which small stones sit close together across a surface. It is not a diamond shape, a clarity grade or a guarantee of a particular carat weight. The setting and the individual stones need to be assessed on their own merits.
A diamond bezel is also not the same as a fully pavé dial. The gallery shows contrasting approaches: a decorated light dial watch, a more extensively gem set gold tone example, and a blue dial framed by diamond details. The cover shows a green dial with a diamond surround.
Originality and Documentation
Ask whether the stones were set by Piaget or added later. Do not assume factory origin from the brand name on the dial. Obtain the reference, material description and documentation for the individual piece, including any information about modifications.
For a preowned watch, inspect the setting for missing or loose stones, wear and repairs. Review the bracelet and clasp as well as the face of the watch. A photograph cannot confirm every stone’s identity or quality.
Movement and Comfort
Confirm whether the watch is quartz, manually wound or automatic. A slim case does not identify the movement, and automatic winding does not remove the need for appropriate care. Ask how the watch is set and what service history is available.
Try the watch on to check bracelet length, clasp security and how comfortably it lies against the wrist. A jewelry watch should be chosen for its design and condition, without a promise that it will appreciate in value.
