Rolex GMT Bezels: Pepsi, Batman, Coke and Root Beer
Share
Pepsi, Batman, Coke and Root Beer are collector nicknames for Rolex GMT bezel color combinations. They describe the bezel surrounding the dial, not the dial itself. The original article mixed several generations and some photographs, so this guide separates the names from the exact reference.
Pepsi and Coke
Pepsi refers to red and blue; Coke to red and black. Earlier watches such as the GMT Master 16700 and GMT Master II 16710 used metal bezel inserts. The 16700 is a GMT Master, not a GMT Master II. The 16710 could be found with different bezel colors, so inspect the individual watch and its history.
Later ceramic Pepsi models include the steel 126710BLRO. The newer ceramic watches should not be confused with the earlier aluminum insert examples shown in parts of this gallery. The older Coke bezel pictured here is not a two color ceramic insert.
Batman
Batman refers to a blue and black bezel. Rolex introduced the ceramic color combination in 2013. The 116710BLNR and later 126710BLNR belong to different movement generations. The later model uses calibre 3285.
The original copy discussed Batman models, but the retained photographs show Pepsi, Coke and Root Beer examples rather than a Batman. We have labeled the images accordingly instead of describing a different watch as the one pictured.
Root Beer
The two tone watch in the gallery has a brown and black ceramic bezel and a steel and rose gold colored bracelet. It corresponds to the newer Everose Rolesor Root Beer style, not the older yellow gold and steel 16713 described beside it in the original text. Rolex’s reference 126711CHNR is the modern steel and Everose gold version.
Compare More Than Color
The GMT Master II allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently. That is an important functional distinction from earlier GMT Master movements. Bracelet type alone does not prove the metal, reference or year, especially on an older watch where parts may have changed.
Before buying, check the complete reference, originality, condition, service records and included accessories. Old prices and statements that every pictured watch is available are no longer current. Ask for a fresh listing and any repair or service quote rather than relying on the old promotional tune up price.
