Selling a Wedding Ring or Band: Your Options
Share
Deciding what to do with a wedding ring is personal. You can keep it, redesign it or consider selling when you are ready. An evaluation gives you information; it does not require you to make a decision that day.
Identify the Type of Band
A plain gold band, a diamond set band and an eternity ring need different assessments. Metal purity and weight matter, but so do the stones, workmanship, maker and condition. A complete wearable piece may be evaluated differently from its materials alone.
For a diamond band, ask whether a stated carat weight refers to all stones together. Do not compare that total directly with the price of a single diamond of the same weight.
Check Size and Condition
Wear, previous sizing and engraving can influence a buyer's plans for the ring. An eternity band with stones around the full circumference may have limited sizing options. Leave alterations and engraving removal until you know whether they are necessary.
Bring receipts, reports or appraisals if available. An insurance replacement figure is not a guaranteed resale price, and missing paperwork does not automatically prevent an evaluation.
Compare Your Choices
A direct sale offers a defined amount after inspection. Consignment has different fees and timing. Redesigning may preserve materials while changing how you wear them, but obtain a specific proposal and price before deciding.
If ownership is unclear, resolve that before agreeing to a sale. Keep a list and photographs of any pieces left with a business and obtain a receipt.
