Selling a Tiffany Engagement Ring: What Affects the Offer
Share
A Tiffany & Co. engagement ring should be evaluated by its design, diamond details and present condition. There is no fixed percentage of the original retail price that applies to every ring. An individual assessment is more useful than a promise of maximum returns.

Identify the Ring and Diamond
Bring the original description and available Tiffany documents or laboratory reports. Record the center stone separately from accent diamonds. Shape, weight, color, clarity, measurements and condition help explain differences between rings.
The setting matters too. Metal, ring size, design and any alterations affect the comparison. A platinum mounting is not automatically worth more overall than a gold ring with different stones or construction.
Keep the Records in Context
A receipt can document the original purchase, while a grading report describes characteristics of a stone. An insurance appraisal gives a value for its stated purpose and date. None is a binding offer from a resale buyer.
A blue box does not authenticate a ring. Ask the evaluator to match the records to the actual piece and explain any uncertainty. Missing paperwork does not automatically prevent an evaluation.

Disclose Wear and Alterations
Tell the buyer about resizing, repairs and replacement stones. A loose setting needs attention, but do not pay for polishing or other work solely to raise an offer without discussing the likely benefit first.
Small surface marks and serious structural wear are different. A buyer should explain the condition issues relevant to the offer rather than treating every sign of use as the same deduction.
Compare Offers and Terms
Present the same ring and accessories to each buyer. Ask whether an amount is final after inspection, whether any fees apply and when payment occurs. If considering consignment, review commission, custody and withdrawal terms.
