Selling Unworn Gold Jewelry: What to Consider First
Share
Gold jewelry can outlast the reason you bought it. A broken chain, an unmatched earring or a ring that no longer fits may be worth evaluating, but selling is only one option.

Decide what you are comfortable parting with
Start with pieces you no longer use and keep sentimental items separate. A small repair might make a favorite chain wearable again. A family piece might be better kept, passed on or considered for a new setting.
Take a simple inventory and photographs before an appointment. Keep pairs together, and bring receipts or reports where available. Do not polish collectible coins or alter jewelry in an attempt to improve its offer before getting advice.

Look beyond the gold weight
Purity and weight matter, but a signed or well made piece may merit assessment as jewelry. Stones and collectible features should be considered separately from metal value. Ask what the buyer has included in the figure.
A higher gold quotation does not ensure that every item will sell above its original price. Workmanship, retail costs and changes in demand can make purchase price and resale value quite different.

Compare the practical benefits
A completed sale can turn an unused item into funds you can use elsewhere. Balance that benefit against losing the piece permanently. You do not have to sell a whole group simply because you brought it for evaluation.
Ask for the final amount, payment method and any conditions. If you are considering a trade, compare the trade allowance and the replacement item’s price as separate figures.
