Buying Luxury Watches Online: A Practical Checklist

Buying a luxury watch online requires more than recognizing a model in a photograph. The useful questions concern the exact watch, its condition, the seller and the written terms of the sale.

Check the Seller and Listing

Confirm the business identity and contact details through a reliable route. Read the listing carefully and request photographs of the actual watch rather than accepting stock images as condition evidence.

Compare the reference, case size, dial, bracelet and included accessories. A broad model name can cover watches with different movements, materials and market values.

Ask About Components and Service

Find out whether the dial, hands, bezel, bracelet or other parts have been replaced, and whether replacements are genuine service parts or aftermarket additions. A serviced watch is not necessarily unchanged from its original configuration.

Ask what work was done, who performed it and what documentation is included. A claim that a watch was “checked” should not be interpreted as a complete overhaul without further detail.

Do Not Authenticate by One Detail

A logo, serial number, apparent weight or box cannot establish authenticity on its own. Packaging and documents need to be assessed with the watch. If independent examination matters to your decision, agree on the inspection and return arrangements before purchase.

For Rolex, distinguish a seller’s inspection from the official brand programme. Our certification guide explains what to ask.

Confirm Fit and Condition

Request clear views of wear, case edges, clasp and bracelet. Ask about included links and whether sizing is offered. Photographs can support a condition assessment, but they may not reveal every issue.

Do not assume an older watch retains its original water resistance. Ask about recent testing and intended use before exposing it to water.

Read the Purchase Terms

  • Confirm the total price and any applicable shipping or other charges.
  • Read the return period, exclusions and condition requirements.
  • Identify who provides the warranty and what it covers.
  • Verify payment instructions through the seller’s established contact details.
  • Confirm delivery, signature and insurance arrangements, including responsibility if something goes wrong.

Keep the Records

Save the listing, invoice, written disclosures and agreed terms. Inspect the delivered watch promptly and raise discrepancies within the applicable return window.

When considering a watch at Diamonds by Raymond Lee, ask the team for details about that specific piece. Do not assume a general article replaces the terms provided with a listing or invoice.
