Rolex Yacht Master II 116689: White Gold and Platinum
Share
The 116689 in This Gallery
This article features the older Rolex Yacht Master II reference 116689, described in the original listing as a 44mm watch with an 18ct white gold case and a platinum bezel. The white dial and pale metal bezel give it a quieter color palette than versions with a blue bezel, although its case and dial layout are anything but understated.
A Countdown for the Start
The Yacht Master II was designed around the countdown before a sailing race begins. That purpose is different from simply measuring how long an entire race takes. The curved countdown scale, separate displays and prominent pushers give the dial its distinctive arrangement. Before operating an example, use the instructions for its exact reference and movement rather than assuming every Yacht Master II works identically.
An Older Dial Configuration
The photographs preserve the configuration of the watch in our original feature. Details such as the hands, hour markers and movement can differ between production periods. This is not a description of every subsequent Yacht Master II release. When buying an older example, ask the seller to identify its reference and relevant service or replacement history.
Size, Fit and Condition
The 44mm case and precious metal construction make trying the watch on especially useful. Look at how the case sits on the wrist, whether the bracelet has enough links and how the clasp closes. The numbered bezel, polished surfaces and bracelet deserve a condition inspection alongside the movement. Historical asking prices and claims about rarity are not substitutes for assessing the particular watch available today.
