Unusual Ring Shapes: Leaf Designs, Contours and Color

A ring’s outline can come from its center stone, its surrounding metal or a group of smaller stones. The unusual designs in this archive show why those details should be described separately. A leaf shaped ring, for example, does not necessarily contain a diamond cut into a leaf.

Small stones can build a larger shape

The open leaf design uses bright stones arranged along branching sections. Its negative space is part of the silhouette. The closer angles show how the setting creates that outline, rather than a single center stone defining the entire shape.

Color and scale change the impression

The large warm colored center in the next photograph makes a different statement from the delicate leaf design. Its appearance alone does not establish gemstone identity or color origin. A written description and any available report are needed for those details.

Contoured bands frame a center
