Reviewing Your Luxury Collection at the Start of the Year
A collection review can show which jewelry and watches still earn a place in your life. The goal does not have to be a sale. It may be better records, a repair plan or a shorter list of pieces you want to wear more often.
Make a Useful Inventory
Photograph each item and record the details you know. For watches, include the model, reference and available service history. For jewelry, keep descriptions, laboratory reports and receipts together. Store serial numbers and personal documents privately.
Mark uncertain information rather than guessing. A family story, an old advertisement and a dated receipt provide different kinds of evidence. Keeping them distinct makes a later evaluation easier.
Choose What to Keep, Review or Offer
Separate frequently worn pieces from those you are considering selling. Put undecided items in their own group. For a damaged heirloom, a repair or redesign conversation may be more useful than asking only for a buying price.
If a piece belongs to an estate or another person, confirm authority before offering it. Do not assume that arranging a valuation resolves ownership.
Compare Selling with Trading
Ask for a current offer on the actual piece and its accessories. An insurance replacement appraisal is not the same as a resale offer. A retail asking price is also different from the amount a buyer is prepared to pay you.
For a trade, compare the allowance and the full price of the replacement together. For consignment, consider the net proceeds, commission, likely timing and what happens if the item remains unsold. Choose the route that fits your priorities and written terms.
Set a Practical Next Action
You might request an evaluation, update an insurance record with your insurer, or have a loose setting checked. A New Year review is useful when it leads to a specific decision rather than a general promise of financial freedom.
There is no automatic seasonal premium and no requirement to sell immediately. Keep the offers and descriptions so you can compare later information accurately.
