Visiting a Jewelry Exchange in Boca Raton: What to Expect
Share
A visit to a jewelry exchange can involve buying, selling or discussing a trade. Arriving with a clear purpose makes it easier to compare options and understand what the business is offering.
Bring the Piece and Its Records
Bring any grading reports, receipts or service records you already have. Documents can help establish details, but their absence does not automatically prevent an evaluation. The piece itself still needs examination.
If you are leaving jewelry for assessment, request a written receipt describing what was accepted and the purpose of the visit. Ask when to expect an update and whether any fees apply.

Understand the Evaluation
The evaluator may examine condition, construction, metal and stones using appropriate equipment. Ask what can be determined while the item is mounted and what would require additional testing.
Do not assume a brief inspection establishes every detail about a stone’s origin, treatment or grade. Ask before any work that would alter the piece, remove a stone or require a separate laboratory service.
Separate Different Kinds of Value
A purchase offer is not the same as an insurance replacement valuation. A retail asking price is also different from the amount a buyer offers to acquire the item.
Condition, resale demand, repairs and transaction costs can affect an offer. Ask for the basis and whether the offer is firm or depends on further verification. There is no universal highest price that every item or buyer must achieve.

If You Are Buying or Trading
Inspect the actual piece and request the relevant stone and metal details. For preowned jewelry, ask about prior repairs, sizing limits and any work needed before wear.
For a trade, compare the purchase price of the new item and the credit for your existing piece separately. Confirm any remaining payment and applicable terms in writing so the overall transaction is clear.
Questions Worth Asking
- Is there a charge for this evaluation?
- Will the item stay on site, and what receipt will I receive?
- Does any testing or alteration need my separate permission?
- What documents or identification should I bring for a transaction?
- How and when would payment be made?
- What return, sizing or warranty terms apply to a purchase?
