Jewelry Consignment in Boca Raton: What to Ask Before Leaving a Piece
Share
Before leaving jewelry on consignment, understand what the store is agreeing to do and what happens if the piece does not sell. A useful agreement makes the process clear from intake through payment or return.
Start with acceptance and an inventory record
Ask whether the store is currently considering your type of jewelry. Acceptance is specific to the item and its condition, not an automatic promise for every ring, necklace or watch. Discuss any documentation or inspection needed first.
At intake, make sure the receipt identifies the piece, included paperwork and accessories, visible condition and any existing damage. Photographs help both sides refer to the same item. Clarify who to contact for updates and what work, if any, you are authorizing.
Agree on pricing and custody
Confirm the asking price, commission, possible charges and who can approve discounts. Ask how the jewelry will be held, where it may be marketed and what the agreement says about damage or loss. Do not assume protections that have not been explained in writing.
Also establish the consignment term, any early withdrawal conditions and the return procedure for an unsold piece. A proposed asking price is not a guaranteed sale or guaranteed owner payout.
Know when payment becomes due
Ask how a completed sale is defined, how customer returns affect the process and when you will be paid. Request a statement showing the sale amount, deductions and net proceeds.
Ask our Boca Raton team about jewelry consignment. Bring photos and available records so they can discuss suitability and the actual agreement before you decide to leave the piece.
