Naturalistic motifs — branches, leaves, birds, flowers — were a defining preoccupation of Victorian and Edwardian jewelers, and this 14k yellow gold brooch draws directly from that tradition. The design captures a leafed branch mid-growth, each section populated with oval orange gemstones set in individual four-prong settings that hold the stones up off the metal so light passes through them freely. At 11 grams in solid 14k gold, the piece has real heft. It was made to be noticed.

Orange stones in fine jewelry have always carried warmth that diamonds and sapphires simply can't replicate. The oval cutting style used here was the workhorse of the Victorian gem-setter's repertoire: a shape that maximizes color saturation face-up while keeping the stones secure in a relatively shallow bearing.
