At approximately 4 carats, the tourmaline center stone in this ring is not a supporting player — it's the whole story. Tourmaline is one of the most chromatically diverse minerals in the gem world, occurring in nearly every color on the spectrum, and fine specimens above 3 carats in clean, vivid material are genuinely scarce. Platinum was the right choice to frame it. The metal's cool, naturally white surface mirrors and intensifies whatever color the tourmaline brings, while the open-gallery bezel construction allows light to pass through the stone from below, giving the gem that characteristic depth and glow that a closed setting simply cannot achieve.
