An advertisement promising the highest gold payout cannot tell you what your particular jewelry is worth. A useful offer identifies the pieces, explains the valuation and states the amount you will receive.

Use a current, item specific quote

Ask when the price was calculated, how long it remains valid and which weight and purity were used. Gold jewelry includes alloys, and stones or nonmetal components may affect the weight calculation. A spot price for pure gold is not a retail jewelry price or a guaranteed purchase offer.

Why an old price table is not enough

Compare the piece as well as the metal

A signed or desirable finished piece may be evaluated differently from material intended for refining. Ask whether the buyer has considered the design, maker and stones.
