Rolex Deepsea vs. Sea-Dweller: Clearing Up the Size
Share
Deepsea and Sea-Dweller are closely associated names, but their specifications are not interchangeable. The blue gem set watch in this gallery has Deepsea markings. The earlier title's 43 mm description should not be used as its measured size.
44 mm Deepsea and 43 mm Sea-Dweller
Rolex's model guide describes the Deepsea with a 44 mm case and a 3,900 metre depth rating. Rolex's Sea-Dweller overview describes the 43 mm model with a 1,220 metre rating and a Cyclops date magnifier.
Those are manufacturer specifications for the respective standard models. They do not confirm the condition, dimensions or water resistance of the particular gem set watch in our archive.

Why the Reference Still Matters
The dial, case and documents need to agree. A blue dial is not enough to identify a reference, and decorative changes can make visual comparisons harder. Ask for the full reference and a record of any replacement dial, bezel or other altered parts.
Movement specifications also depend on the reference and generation. Avoid copying a current model's power reserve or calibre number into the description of an older watch without checking it.
Compare Fit as Well as Diameter
Case thickness, bracelet adjustment and the way the watch sits across the wrist can matter as much as one millimetre of diameter. Try both model families if size is your main concern.
