David Webb Carousel Horse Head Brooch: Design Details
Share
The David Webb Carousel Horse Head brooch turns a familiar fairground subject into a sculptural piece of jewelry. Its curved neck, decorated bridle and dangling tassels give the design movement even when it is resting on a display surface. These original photographs offer a close look at a piece previously featured by Diamonds by Raymond Lee.

Color and texture
Small white stones cover much of the horse’s face and neck. Green stones trace the bridle, while red and blue accents stand out against the bright surface. Dark sections separate the details, and the gold crest and tassels add depth. The result depends as much on the placement of color as on the amount of sparkle.

The original piece record
The archived description records 7.25 carats of diamonds, 1.50 carats of rubies, 2.30 carats of emeralds and 1.00 carat of sapphires, with platinum and 18k gold. It lists a weight of 57.2 grams. These are historical piece specifications; the photographs alone cannot verify gemstone identity, treatment or weight.

Look at the reverse, too
The back reveals the David Webb signature, metal marks and twin pin fittings. For a brooch of this size, ask a jeweler to check the pins, catches and attachment points before wearing it. Test the placement on a structured garment so the fabric supports the piece comfortably.
