Elton John’s Rolex Leopard Daytona: The Auction and Design
Share
Elton John’s Rolex Leopard Daytona was sold during Christie’s The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road in February 2024. The sale is now part of the watch’s documented history, rather than an upcoming auction to watch.
About the photographs: The images in this article come from the Diamonds by Raymond Lee archive and illustrate the Leopard Daytona design. They do not establish that the pictured watch belonged to Elton John.

A Recognizable Daytona Design
The patterned dial and matching strap make this interpretation of the Daytona immediately distinctive. Warm orange stones around the bezel and diamond detailing on the case surround the familiar three register chronograph layout.
Viewed from the side, the combination of case setting and patterned strap is as noticeable as the dial. It is a very different visual choice from the restrained steel Daytonas many people first associate with the collection.

What the Auction Actually Reported
Christie’s opening night results reported $176,400 for Elton John’s Leopard Daytona, against a low estimate of $40,000, and described it as a model auction record at that sale. That is a dated result for a particular watch with celebrity provenance, not a current price guide for every Leopard Daytona.
Ownership history needs documentary support. A matching model or a serial number alone does not prove a connection to a famous owner.

Evaluating Another Example
For any watch offered today, establish the exact reference, original configuration, condition, service history and included documentation. Have the gem setting and any replacement components assessed as part of the individual watch. Ask for current availability and a written description rather than treating an archived article as an active listing.
