How to Prepare Jewelry for Sale in Boca Raton
Share
A little preparation makes a jewelry selling appointment more useful. You do not need to know every technical detail, but a clear record of the pieces and their history helps avoid confusion, particularly when selling several items together.

Make a simple inventory
List each ring, necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings separately. Photograph the front, back, clasps and visible markings. Note missing stones, broken clasps, resizing and any known repairs. Keep matching parts together and do not remove stones or attempt polishing before the evaluation.
Gather receipts, grading reports, appraisals and original packaging if you have them. A maker’s mark can provide a starting point for identification, but it should be examined in the context of the whole piece.

Discuss how each item will be valued
A signed necklace may have a resale market as jewelry, while a damaged unbranded piece may be considered mainly for its materials. Ask how the buyer is approaching each item. Total stone weight alone does not show how individual diamonds compare in size or quality.
Request separate figures when that would help you decide what to keep. The amount paid originally or shown on an insurance appraisal does not guarantee a resale offer today.

Choose the sale arrangement
An outright sale and consignment have different timelines. For consignment, review the asking price, commission, approved expenses, custody arrangements and return terms in writing. For a direct sale, confirm the amount and payment arrangements before transferring ownership.
Set aside anything you are not ready to part with. An evaluation can be informative without committing you to sell every piece. Contact our Boca Raton team to discuss the jewelry you would like assessed and what to bring.
