The Tank Française arrived in 1996 as Cartier's most architectural reimagining of the Tank lineage. Where the original Tank, conceived by Louis Cartier in 1917, drew its silhouette from the overhead view of a WWI tank's tracks, the Française pushed that geometry into three dimensions. The brancards, those vertical bars flanking the case, integrate directly into the bracelet on the standard version, but on this small 20 x 25 mm gold example, the form is distilled to its purest state: a rectangular case that reads as a jewel as much as a watch. Set in 18k white gold with a factory-set pavé diamond bezel, this particular example is among the most refined configurations the Française was offered in.

Round brilliant-cut diamonds are set in continuous pavé across the bezel, framing a clean silver dial signed CARTIER in the house's Roman numeral tradition. The numerals are unhurried and precise, the hands slender and blued, and the overall composition is exactly what Cartier's jewelry-watch heritage promises. Vision inspection confirmed the case and bezel are in excellent condition with no missing stones visible and no deep scratches on the case. The black leather strap retains its deployant clasp and shows the natural softening of a well-worn but cared-for example.
