Reference 116610LN is the all-black configuration of the modern 40mm Submariner Date, and it holds a distinct place in the Rolex sport catalog. Introduced in 2010 as the successor to the long-running 16610LV "Kermit" and the earlier black-bezel 16610, the 116610LN brought the Submariner family into the ceramic era with a black Cerachrom bezel insert that retains its deep, uniform color indefinitely. Unlike the aluminum bezels of earlier references, ceramic is essentially immune to UV fading and virtually scratch-resistant, which is exactly why collectors gravitate toward this generation. The "LN" suffix stands for lunette noire, French for black bezel, confirming the factory all-black configuration.
This example presents in excellent condition throughout. The black dial carries crisp applied luminous index markers and the Mercedes hands retain their full lume fill, showing the matte black surface without any fading or discoloration. The black Cerachrom bezel is in clean shape, and the Oystersteel case and Oyster bracelet show the typical combination of brushed flanks and polished center links with minimal wear consistent with a lightly used piece. The Oysterlock fold clasp with the engraved Rolex crown sits flush and functions properly. Serial G293489 dates this example to the mid-2010s production run.
