The Rolex 16610 Submariner Date ran from 1988 to 2010, making it one of the longest-produced references in the Submariner lineage and one of the most collected. It was the watch that introduced the sapphire crystal to the Submariner in place of acrylic, retained the proven Caliber 3135 movement, and kept the 40mm case size that defined the model for generations. The 16610 is the last Submariner to wear the classic proportions and the aluminum bezel insert before Rolex transitioned to ceramic with the 116610 in 2010. For many collectors, that combination of proven mechanics, iconic dimensions, and aluminum insert is the definitive Submariner.

This example presents the standard black-on-black configuration: glossy black dial, black rotating bezel insert, and applied luminous index hour markers with the signature Mercedes-hand set. The SWISS-T<25 marking at six o'clock on the dial identifies this as a tritium-lume example, placing production in the earlier part of the 16610 run. The Oystersteel case and Oyster bracelet remain structurally solid, with light surface wear on the bracelet links consistent with careful use. The bezel insert is intact and the sapphire crystal is clear with no visible damage in any frame. It wears cleanly on a 7-inch wrist.

A clean 16610 at this price is a genuinely versatile acquire.
