The Rolex Explorer II reference 216570 arrived in 2011 as the second generation of the modern Explorer II, succeeding the beloved 16570 and bringing a larger 42mm case, a more legible dial, and the in-house Caliber 3187 movement with its independently adjustable GMT hour hand. Built for explorers who needed to track two time zones simultaneously, the Explorer II has long been a fixture among cavers, volcanologists, and travelers who want Rolex's tool-watch DNA without the dive-watch look. The fixed 24-hour bezel, engraved with numerals from 2 to 24, lets the wearer distinguish AM from PM at a glance in environments where natural light is absent or misleading.
This example wears the classic black dial configuration, which Rolex collectors have long referred to as the "Black Explorer II."
