The Rolex 16610 Submariner Date is one of the most recognized and collected sports watches ever made, produced from 1988 through 2010 before the reference gave way to the current 116610. During its long run, the 16610 earned a reputation as the definitive modern Submariner: 40mm Oystersteel case, caliber 3135 movement with its rock-solid rotor and date complication, and the unidirectional rotating bezel that became synonymous with serious dive-watch design. The dial text on this example confirms its pedigree — "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" and a 1000ft/300m depth rating printed cleanly across the matte black surface.
This particular 16610 presents in excellent pre-owned condition. The black aluminum bezel insert is clean with no fading or chipping, the sapphire crystal is clear, and the Oyster bracelet retains its structure with no significant stretch. Applied luminous index markers and the iconic Mercedes hour hand remain crisp and bright. The case flanks show only light surface marks consistent with normal wear, nothing that detracts from the overall presentation.
